    Photos sent to the Navy

I sent the Navy the links to slideshows on about half of their cannons. I chose those I had photos of from 1980. The new photos were taken earlier this month. They include many extreme close-up photos of the surface of the metal. The Navy can send links to these slideshows to anyone they want to have look at them. There are many Navy employees at the various Warfare Centers and Laboratories in the Navy system who are qualified to tell what's going on with the metal and recommend what should be done about it, if the authorities in the Washington Navy Yard would ask them.

    cannonmn,

I just sent an e-mail to Senator Webb of Virginia concerning the damage to these cannon. I included links to your posts on the Washington Navy Yard. As a former SecNav, and a recent proponent of Civil War battlefield preservation, he should be interested.

The Artilleryman has an article on the Washington Navy Yard cannons in the current issue. The editor interviewed me for the article, and also asked the Navy's media and public relations office for comment. The article says the Navy did not respond.

Article in THE ARTILLERYMAN about cannons in Wash. Navy Yard

Some folks had been asking me for a link they could include when they emailed their elected reps.
