Thread: Starr Carbine

  1. Starr Carbine

What type of cartridge did the Starr carbine use? metallic or paper? Thanks rick

  2. Both. The percussion Starr used a linen cartridge much like the Sharps. Later Starr's shot a 52 caliber rimfire cartridge. Richard Hill on our team shoots an original Starr very well and uses paper cartridges.

    Both, kind of.

Initially they used a linen (not paper) cartrdige such as this one -

But late in the war some Starrs were converted to or produced in rimfire, metalic cartridge of the Spencer rifle caliber.

Starrs used THREE types of ammo!

The percussion Starr Carbine could use Sharps cartridges, and in many cases, units equipped with Starr Carbines were issued Sharps cartridges.
Hence Starr Carbines used THREE types ammo: The percussion Starrs used Sharps and Starr cartridges and the metallic Starr Carbines used rimfire ammo!

You ARE wrong Sir :!: The first ones used Onion skins as they buried the first starrs extra deep in an onion field. Then they learn a better use was stakes. Ya got'ah experiment ta learn.
