Tang markings on 1851 Cadet Musket

Can anyone identify the S C C marking stamped on the tang of an 1851 smoothbore cadet musket? Musket also has a large no. 50 rack number(?) on the underside of the forearm. Lock & barrel are both 1852 dated. Thank you for any thoughts or ideas on this stamping.

Jack, There were literally many dozens of Military Schools throughout the land in 1852. They were like High Schools today. The 50 I think wouldn't be a rack number as a rack number would need to be seen all the time. The SCC is possible the name of such a school. The spelling of Cadet in the day was also spelled Kadet. The only ones we are pretty sure where they went are the VMI ones that aren't marked but just 51 dated. Some rifled ones went to West point and are dated much later. These were used in schools into the 1860's from what I here.

Let me clarify the (?) rack marking. The 50 marking is on the outside of the forearm, right in front of the trigger guard plate. It measures approx 1/2 inch. I also can see, stamped just behind the guard plate, on the stock wrist or handle, SRC. Bruce, thanks for your input.

Jack, I think you have a Cadet from the Citadel. The school has been supported by South Carolina since 1842. "South Carolina Corps of cadets", SCC. Look it up in google. It all makes perfect sense. Maybe some of my cadet research has finally paid off. Regards, Bruce

The Citadel would have been my guess for "SCC" as well but Bruce beat me to it. I have a similar mystery: a Springfield M1884 cadet rifle (.45-70 trapdoor) with "U.R." branded/burned into the stock just forward of the trigger guard. Has anyone seen other trapdoors with this marking? Presumably the "U" could be for a university. Any ideas about which school may have marked their cadet rifles as such would be welcome.
