    1847 Fremont Windage Adjustment

I need to adjust the windage on my Armisport repro 1847 Fremont. Over the years the point of impact has drifted to the left. What's the method for correcting windage on the musket with no left-right adjustment in the sight assemblies?

File the rear sight notch to the right, or fill it and recut it to the right.

Or file the side of the thick front. Yes sir, those techniques are understood.
I'm hoping that someone knows some tricks to use with how the front barrel band interacts with the stock and barrel.
Considering an adjustable sight on the front barrel band too.

For some reason, all of those Fremonts shoot way to the left.

Fixed her right up. Adjusted the hole in the front band by a few thou with a small round file. File and shoot, file and shoot, file and shoot...
It locks into place when you re-assemble, no play and it's centered to point of aim.

Me thinks it is a matter of manufacturing techniques, of how they fit the bands at the factory. They made this one where you had to hard crank it to get the spring pin to go into the hole in the front band. The direction it had to be forced in made the barrel go to the left (the front sight moving to the right).

Now if I can just get it to have a decent and consistent trigger pull....

I refitted the top band and spring in mine, and then had Rob Lewis do a trigger job. Worked wonders.
