    WTB - 1855 Springfield/Harper's Ferry Rifle Musket Type I

    Hello!

I'm looking to buy an M1855 Springfield/Harper's Ferry Rifle Musket Type I, can be original or reproduction. Can be 3 band Rifle Musket or 2 band (Harper's Ferry) rifle. These would be brass mounted with the long range rear sights, as documented in:

"Coates and Thomas, An Introduction to Civil War Small Arms, 1990", pages 14 & 15.

Please PM with what you have and your asking price. Pics would also be helpful.

    Thanks!
    Terry

    Terry,

    I have one of each.
The type 1 Rifle Musket as made at Harpers Ferry or the type 1 Harpers Ferry, brass mounted Rifle.
I built each for very different reasons, both can be brought up to N-SAA SAC specs. If you choose to.
If you are looking at "Reenacting" only, you will not need to change or alter anything.
Please contact me, if you wish at btaylor18@cfl.rr.com
I will supply you with images and/or descriptions as you may need for each arm.
    My best,
    Blair

    Blair,

Terry is a new member of the N-SSA and the newest member of the Union Guards. The firearms he seeks will be used in N-SSA competitions so will need a SAC card.

    Phil,

Thank you. I understood that this was the case.
Both firearms were built off of SAC Spec Sheets from 30 to 35 years ago. There should be no issue getting either approved now. (I will even fill out the "new" Spec Sheet and sign them if it will help get them approved.)
However, there maybe some issues in getting them to shoot with any accuracy due to the fact that they were both used for reenacting at times over those years.
This is why I asked Terry to contact me. So he and I could talk about what he may want to or should do to get them shooting.
    My best,
    Blair

Sounds good. Please let me know what needs to be done also as I will be the one working with Terry on his new firearms. He has never shot competitively before and as such is a bit of a "fresh fish"!

BTW whose barrels are on the M1855's?
    Regards,

    Phil,

The Rifle Musket BBL is one of the last Barrels made by Mike Yeck.(remember the Fayetteville Rifle you found of mine? I bought both barrels from Mike at the same time.) It probably should be lapped.
The Brass Mounted Rifle BBL is a Zoli Zouave barrel that Dan Whitacre rebreached for me in an approved N-SSA style.
This BBL would need to be either replaced or sleeved.

Everything else should measure out correctly, with proper sights. But I will cross check it all to make sure.
    My best,
    Blair
