Hi all, I was wondering if any shoot 1-48? I have a PH 1858 Naval rifle and I having some issues with finding the right combo. Any advice?
Thanks, Rob

Robert,
As you give no detail on current attempts ...
45gr FFFg, Lyman 575213 NS minie
Take care and be safe

My favorite load is 42 gr. of FFFg and a 455 gr. Minie-Hunter bullet.
Lube with 50-50 beeswax and tallow.
Cheers,

Pardon my ignorance , but where does one get the mold for the minnie hunter or purchase the bullets? I haven't seen either before.
I should have been more specific..... I have been trying to get a lyman 575213PH to shoot well and I can't seem to. Have tried charges from 40 -60 FFg and fired it "unsized" (though run through a 577 die to take off the excess lube) as well as sized to 575. My understanding is that the 1-48 twist should stabilize the longer bullet with a centre of gravity that is slightly farther back due to its shallow cavity. The skirt is fairly thin as compared to an OS mold I have and am wondering if it can only handle a lighter load?
Thanks,
Rob
Hate to ask the obvious, but have you slugged or gauged the bore? Is the bullet JUST .001 undersize? Is the lead pure? Just thinking out loud.

Lead pure, Barrel not slugged. Guess I should do this.....
Thanks,
Rob
Anybody use the lyman 578465 or like bullet?
Thanks,
Rob
In my first-generation P-H Navy 2-bander with that twist, circa 1975-to-1981, I shot 40 gr 3F DuPont (Goex) using a Lyman 580213 NS bullet ... with the bullet sized to 0.5795" for a 0.580" barrel. That last part was critical for accuracy ... keep the bullet diameter CLOSE to the bore diameter. Lube was simple 3 tallow:1beeswax, and I used a base-dab of Crisco ... loading was no problem through a Skirmish. I copied that load from the other folks that were also learning to use that new rifle in 1975 ... it worked, so I never experimented with any other loads.
Regards/Good luck
Dave,
Saw this post from last year. Where do you get a sizer that sizes to .5795? All I have seen are in .001 steps. Working up a new load for a .581 barrel and need a new sizer.
