Can anyone tell me about a Garret made missississippi rifle? Who made them? When made? Are they good guns? Any help appreciated. Jim Hensley

Jim,
These were made in Italy and imported by Frank Garrett out of Norfolk, Virginia some twenty or so years back.
I got one that was worked on by RaiderANV, and at 50 yards with the Lyman wadcutter and 40 grains of 3f even I could not miss.
Far better than the current Italian crop.

I have a line on three of these guns. Any idea as to value? Jim
I had two. One was a good shooter with no mods and the other was very erratic. For some reason I seem to remember it was not approved by the small arms committee but I could be wrong.
They were made for Frank Garret and included some of the old Goldrush parts left over when that maker went out of business. IMO they are better than the presently available M1841s from AS and Euro Arms.

Jim Mayo,
The stock of the Garrett Mississippi did not pass muster of the SAC as it was too short, did not replicate the original configuration. PJ added wood to the one I bought from him to lengthen the forestock to meet original specs.
