Welcome to the forum.
Have you slugged the bore of your musket? A .585 Minie is quite oversize. Standard bore size was .580 and most of us shoot Minies that are about .001-003 under size, for ease of loading and minimum expansion to fit the bore.

Guys,
I find that most original muskets are oversize, usually in the .581 diameter. I just measured another one today (Zouave) and it checked out at .581.
I can provide an original style minie for the musket in .585 diameter that is going to be just right for sizing down to the proper diameter, considering it to be slightly over .580 diameter.
My molds are double cavity, captive core aluminum molds. With handles the price is $175 not including shipping. If I can be of assistance, drop me a line.
Thanks

My first gun was a Euroarms P1853. It's bore ended up being .584.
I only found one stock mold that size, the RCBS Hodgdon is available in .584.
I also had someone, think it was Charlie Hahn? open up a Lee Original Minnie to .584 for me.
Never could get that barrel to shoot right - replaced it with a Whitacre barrel.
