    Sizing of Maynard Bullet

I shoot an original Model 2 with a John Bly barrel rifled by Bobby Hoyt

360 grain Mike Owsiak carbine bullet in pure lead

Reduced capacity brass with 25 grains of 3F Goex and Lens Lube

The groove to groove diameter of the rifling (six lands/grooves) is 512

I\'ve been sizing to 516. Is this too big?

Sometimes I get a few lead flakes when I clean but no leading.

Shoots very well but can I do better?

    Cheers!

Mike, I shoot the exact same bullet in mine. If you size to say.514 you might not have deep enough lube grooves. If your using soft lead the lead flacks are probably melting by the heat the skirt leaves behind from the lands. With having 6 lands and grooves you probably have smaller flakes melt by heat than you would with 3 lands and grooves. If it is shooting fine and lead is coming out with patch then your lube is working good I would not mess with it. You could try adding some hard lead, not much, to you soft lead when moulding your carbine bullets to see if it eliminates the flaking. RIch
