    My first moose mould

i just got my first moose mould in the mail. being a 54 cal freak i ordered the wilkinson style 54 double cav mould. i noticed some pretty interesting features on this mould. first off the handles are my favorite brand. lee production handles. they have a nice long jaw and the handles overall length is longer than most to keep them cool. the way they are designed they are very comfortable to use. you dont have to move them a lot to open the mould. now to the heart of things. the mould itself is made out of aluminum so it heats up pretty quick. once you get your casting system down they will stay up to temp without overheating. the sprue plate is nice and thick with large counter sinks so that the bullets will fill out properly.the mould is attached to the handles with allen screws which appear to be stainless steel. the slickest thing i see on the mould is there is a spacer for the sprue plate to pivot on so that the plate does not gauld against the aluminum face. i havent seen this before but its one hell of a good idea. by just looking at the mould you see a lot of hand work. no sharp edges anywhere. the cavitys are perfect in every way. i must say im very impressed with this mould. it was 125 bucks for a double cavity plus shipping. i would say this is a great deal. this one is my first but im sure its not gona be my last. its great to see someone make such a quality product.

Aw, shucks....you made Moosie blush! Thanks for the positive feedback, but most importantly - glad you like the design. Moose gave alot of thought to how he could improve the moulds based on his past experiences. He has quite a few moulds that he has perfected over the years and decided to incorporate those changes into those he now sells. Everything you mentioned are things he wanted to do better !!

Do you guys make an equivalent to the RCBS-Hodgdon N-SSA skirmisher bullet?

All the major retailers have been out of this bullet mold forever.

    Steve,
I just checked Midway and they have the .576 diameter in stock. They are $92.00 but have a $10.00 rebate through the end of the year.

Morning Steve - talked with Moose, he mentioned that this style is normally .578, and he does have plans on making this one as well - but probably not until after the Nationals at this point. Feel free to shoot me an email at moosette@moosemoulds.com with the details of the mould you are looking for, and we will add it to the list!

    Have a great day,

    Moosette

Yup, but I size to .576, so I'm looking for the .578. I will email the moose.
