    Shaping a Slouch Hat

I'm getting a new slouch hat from Jarnagin . The brim is left flat and the crown round so people can set it to their liking. Are there any suggestions for a look that would be period correct? Also, any methods for shaping a hat so it stays in the shape?

I'm out in the west where most groups have north and south outfits. I have a full Union outfit and now I'm trying to get into a Confederate outfit.

I have 3 sloch hats, and I like to stem them to gety a shapwe I like. I run the kettle on the burner of my stove, and once it comes to a boil, I run the hat over the spout end to let the steam get on the hat. Pull it away and shape as needed. I have done this to all my hats and it works all the time. I loved the results. I hope this helps you out.

    Thanks,

Look in the Echos of Glory for some photos of various slouch hats.

The clearwater hat that I wear has a mind of it's own. It even shrinks at time and I have to streatch it out.
