I may be buying a used repro Colt M1861 Special in the next few days. Can anyone recommend a bullet, sizing diameter and any other load information that they have had luck with?
Thanks!

I bought 2 of those in 2001, they both had been over threaded in the barrel at the breech, they would strip a patch off a jag in a heartbeat. After some time I finally got Chattahocie ( I know I did not spell that right), to replace the barrels on both rifles. Anyway the original barrels both took a .579" ball. The new ones take a .577" ball............Hope this helps, Rick Ramey

Although I can shoot a bigger ball, I size mine to .575" for the best accuracy. The Lee trashcan bullet and the Rapine Pritchet (sp?) style bullets shoot very well for me - one hole groups offhand!!! I just had a higher front sight installed and am now sighting it in for 50 and 100 yds. It is going to replace a P53 Enfield that I shot for years.
