    McDowell brim?

How often was this bummer brim used instead of the more typical, flatter, squared brim? Did it have any particular purpose? Was it issued to entire units? Just curious.

The McDowell brim was seen more often early in the War, but can be observed in period photograghs throughout the conflict. It was made popular by Gen Irvin McDowell.
