    Spencer carbine value.

I was approached today at a living history demonstration and asked if I was interested in buying a Spencer carbine serial #10XX. The owner stated it was in unfired condition. He described no wear or scratches on breachblock assy and excellent color all over. He wanted $1700. I have not seen the weapon yet but before going further would be interested in opinions as to the value of the gun as he described.

    Thanks,

You'll need more info then that to answer the question but I find the best gauge for figuring a price is www.gunbroker.com

Is it the Model 1860 or 1865 carbine or rifle

Des - I think the gun is probably a repro. If not I'll take a dozen at that price. For a reference on retail values for Spencer repros you might look in the Dixie Gun Works website.

I should have added this caveat - if the gun is a custom made Larry Romano product you need to scarf it up.

I saw an 1860 Spencer in average used condition last June at the Gettysburg show and the dealer had a $2700.00 price tag on it.

    Spencer

The gentleman showed up with the Spencer and was a bit off on the condition. While still in very good condition it definately had been fired. It was an 1865 carbine with almost no finish left but not rusty or pitted. There was color on the case hardened parts. The stock had minor dings and the cartouche was very good. The bore was excellent. He had dropped the price to $1600. Thinking of making an offer but haven't decided. I checked gun broker and saw they were asking $1700 to $3400. Condition on this one was better than the ones for sale. There were no bids on any of the ones on Gunbroker
