Asheland Grey: This appears to be a sound, original Palmetto. It has the desirable brass barrel bands and the "bushy tree" variant lock plate marking. The proof marks on the barrel breech, if visable, would be interesting. The sling swivels are there, it has a mighty fine "SC" buttplate, and, other than the pitting, the only shortcoming I see is that the muzzle has been shortened a tad, something that could be fixed.
I just acquired a Palmetto, after 40 years of pining. Your asking price is very reasonable. If you cannot otherwise sell it and live near where there are Civil War relic shows, I'd suspect a dealer would relieve you of it not too far inside the door.
