after doing a little research i have found out that the spanish enfield my friend has is a very rare rifle. hiram hawkins purchased 500 of these rifles for his hometown outfit he was putting together in kentucky. these rifles were top end rifles and he paid 32.50 each. which was a lot more than other rifles cost at the time. according to records these rifles came out of cuba and found their way to louisville kentucky. the brigade that was formed eventualy became known as the orphan brigade. according to the articles written about these rifles they are some of the rarest of all civil war firearms.
