Just picked this up off the muzzleloading forum, and ran my 678's on it. It came out right for them with known pure lead. You may find it of some interest.

Thanks for posting the web address. I am going to give it a try.

Jim,
This appears to be a good web site for determing the purity of a lead bullet. Thanks for bringing to my attention.

Yeah, I thought it looked handy.
The forum where I picked it up - http://www.muzzleloadingforum.com - has a lot of good info on it about muzzleloading in general, and there's a dozen or so skirmishers on it to keep the info straight on our particular class of firearms as well.
The site sells a privileged sort of membership, which doesn't particularly appeal to me, but has plenty of forums open to us cheapskates who just hold the basic (free) membership. One of the good points is, it does not tolerate discussion of in-line "muzzleloaders." Gotta love that.

the site says for pure round ball of .535 diam. ball should weigh 231. You think 230 is close enough or should I assume it is something other than pure?

Trim the sprue a little closer and that will take care of it! Green

Out of my 4 test bals they range from right on the money to a all the way to a grain under with no spur. Is that close enough you think?
Did you measure the ball diameters? A hot or cold mold could throw a slightly different diameter and therefore a different weight. Instead of weighing four weigh ten and average the weight.

I cant measure the diam right now but I did let the mould get pretty hot before I made the test balls I will make more like you said I just wonder how much give or take there can be because I want to know how much tin to add for a 20:1 lead tin mix
If that is what you are going to do you are close enough.
