    Approved Smoothbores?

    Hi John,
Where would I find the list of SAC approved smoothbores? In the Approved Arms booklet I only see US and Confederate smoothbores listed, but lots of guys are shooting the foreign imports such as Potsdams, Belgians, etc.
Are any of the British smoothbores approved, such as pattern 1839 or pattern 1842?

    Glenn, et al -

The Small Arms Approved Arms List only represents new made arms that have been given "Production Approval" bythe N-SSA's Board of Directors.

There is no compiled list of original arms that are permitted for use in the N-SSA. See Rule 14.1 for an explanation of allowable original arms.

The SAC has spec sheets on the Prussian Models 1809 and 1839, the French Charleville Models 1763 and 1766, and the English Pattern 1842. There’s also the French/Belgian Models 1822, 1822/40, 1840, and 1842 in both 40” and 42” barrel lengths, brass or iron furniture. The Austrian Model 1842 is acceptable, and these can be found with or without rear sights.
