Pedersoli Sharps 1863 .54 cal Sporter

I have the opportunity to pick up this rifle off the net at about half the going retail price. It's in very nice (almost new)shape. I've never ventured into breech loading percussion rifles but always wanted to give it a try. I certainly have read pros and cons about the carbine model and would assume the same would apply to the sporter, but still, it seems like a good deal. Track recently sold one in a day that was $200.00 more. I'm looking for advise from knowledgeable Sharps guys on which way to go.

    Thanks,

    Duane

    Duane,
If you're just looking for something to shoot, buy it. If you're looking for something to compete with in the N-SSA, the sporter is not legal in any match. I have just bought a Pedersoli Sharps Infantry rifle and find it to be just as accurate as my Shiloh in my hands. Of course, fit and finish is not comparable, but I didn't expect that to be the case for what I paid.
