    Hodgen Mould

I LOVE the Hodgen mould for several reasons:

    1. It uses less lead per bullet.
    2. It produces less RECOIL.
    3. The sharp shoulder of the bullet will allow you to break targets that a normal Minie Ball would simply push aside and "mark" with a lead streak.
    4. It has the "Big Lube" rear groove design that is known to be less affected by a build-up of black powder fouling.

The only "down" side of the Hodgen is that it on only a 50/100 yard bullet. Past 100 yards the "slightly-wadcutter" design of the bullet slows it down and makes it too unstable.

Also, the mould manufacturer sometimes "fudges" a bit on the size printed on the box. The box might say the bullet is a ".576 diameter," (or whatever,) but the actual size of the bullet can vary somewhat from the advertised size printed on the box.
