    Help with Sharps Ringtail ID

I need to know the respective mould makers & designation of the pictured two Sharps ringtail conicals, please. Particularly the one on the right. Thanks.

The one on the left measures 0.522, 0.540 & 0.560 front to rear bands. The one on the right (harder to measure for the bevels) is 0.514, 0.525 & 0.545.

    Sharps molds

    Brad,
The mold on the left is a Rapine, .557475 and fits some of the Italian repos. The mold on the right is either a Lyman .544475 or a Rapine .544475. They fit the Shiloh and Garrett Sharps mostly.
To determine which is better for a particular rifle, simply insert the round into the muzzel of the rifle pointed end first and the correct round should have two[2] rings that will not fit inside the muzzel.
    Hope this helps...............Jim Brake...... jmsbrake@yahoo.com

Jim, that is why I am trying to ID the one on the right as it fits my Garrett and the other is too large. Thank you, sir.

    Garrett

    Boge,
I picked up a Garrett carbine last summer and I was suprized with the bore size when I slugged it. Have you slugged yours and if so what size is it. Mine is .535 groove to groove with a 7 lands and a left hand twist. One of my teammates has the same carbine, same bore but right hand twist. Any information would be appreciated, Steve Renner

    Mould

    Boge,
The bullet on the left is an IDEAL/Lyman/NEI Original style (1863) bullet. As I have all of the listed moulds to compare against.

The bullet on the right, with the smaller rings is a modified style closer to one made by Rapine. I do not know if he still makes that particular mould.

NEI will manufacture a mould to your size requirements if they do not already do so. Check the website to see if they have one.

    Take care and be safe
