Thread: Confederate Depots in Southwestern Virginia

  1. Confederate Depots in Southwestern Virginia

Does anyone have any information how troops were uniformed in Western Virginia? I have heard of a Staunton Depot, Dublin Depot and a Wytheville Depot. Does anyone have any information on what these depots issued and to whom? Thanks for your replys. Rick

    Rick,
It might depend on the date considered. In the command of General Samuel Jones fall of 1863 it would have been the Richmond Depot.

    Rick,
Some additional information which might be of value. There was a particular
shell jacket issue noted to be made at the Wytheville, VA Depot. In style the jacket was very similar in style to the Richmond Depot type III made of very heavy dark grey wool, known as Wytheville grey, 9 button front, brass buttons, white cotton lining, one inside breast pocket, with a short stand up collar 1 1/2" tall. The sleeves are cut full with a narrow cuff and a 6 piece body.
