Thread: starting loads for a .54?

  1. starting loads for a .54?

I lost Jim Leinekes 96 article on same. I need to get my Jaeger up and running. The only mould I have is the 410 gr. ideal in .533. I believe he had good luck with this but don't know where to start. Ideas are appreciated. Thanks for looking. Stephen Weber,20th GA.

I have two .54s using the lyman .533 bullet. I use 45 grs. in one rifle and 47 in the other, both 3f and both seem to prefer Schuetzen powder over Goex. The skirt is rather thick on this bullet and I never had much luck using 2f except in much greater volume. It takes a strong initial punch to expand it properly.
