    rapine ringtail problem

The screw that holds the sprue plate on my rapine sharps ringtail bullet becomes loose each time I drop a bullet. I have to get my pliers and tighten it back every time I cast a round. It did not used to do this. Can anyone tell me how to fix this it is really annoying lol.

drill and tap a new screw into the side of the mould to lock the sprue screw into place. i did this with two of his moulds to fix the same problem. marv jr.

remember that this screw will lock into the threads on the existing screw like on a lyman block. it really just has to be close to the same size to lock it into place. I just used what was in the shop bins. Marv

I would suggest using high temperature LOCK TIGHT. Take the screw out coat it with the lock tight, reinstall it. You do have to do this when the mold is cold.

    Re: rapine ringtail problem

    Solve the problem pernamently:

    1. Remove sprue plate screw and sprue plate.

    2. Put mould on a drill press and drill ALL THE WAY thru the block thru the sprue plate screw hole.

    3. Go to hardware store and purchase a 'Grade 5' bolt that will go all the way thru the sprue plate and mould block with 3/4" of an inch of it hanging below the mould.

    4. Purchase short coil spring at hardware store and put on end of Grade 5 bolt protruding thru block. Then purchase and put on a washer, lock nut and COMPRESS THE SPRING SOMEWHAT.

Now you have a pernament fix as the spring will maintain a constant downward pressure on the sprue plate. You can adjust the tension by screwing down or unscrewing a bit the lock nut. By the way, once you have found the ideal tension, use some high temp LOC TITE on the nut.

NOW CAST BULLETS WITH NO MORE HASSLES! Everytime I buy a new mould, I always make this modifcation.
