    Bullet Lead Hardness

I have found a lot of information on this forum regarding loads for the .54 Sharps - GOEX vs. Swiss, 3F vs. 2F, charge amounts, how to use Charlie's tubes, etc., etc. However, I have not heard anything regarding bullet hardness and what works. What do the folks use out there? Soft lead, hard lead, in between, 1/20 tin/lead?

    Bronc,
I have found that if I add 3 oz. of wheel weights to a pound of pure, the gun will shoot accurately. Pure, soft lead just strips the rifles.

I shoot 20:1 in my Shiloh 1863 carbine. No leading and no problems.

Just in case you haven't discovered it, Shiloh Sharps has a sub-forum just for percussion breech loaders. There is lots of good info there.
