Ideal bullet weight for a Smith

What's the most common used bullet in the repro Smith carbines? I have a Lyman 515139 330 gr. and a Lyman 515141 425 gr. Would the 425 gr. be suitable for the Smith. What bullet did they use during the civil war period?
    Thanks

In my experience the 139 is the most popular but some Smiths prefer the 141. You will have to try them both out of your carbine. One of those two will work most of the time with about 30 grains of 3f.
