shooting a '53 Sharps slant breech

I have a '53 slant breech sharps is excellent condition that I have shot (with no gas leakage). The bore diamenter is .414, land diameter .383--how's that for deep rifling. The chamber holds about 90 gr fff. The rifling twist is one turn in 50". Can any of you ballisticians tell me what length bullet might be stabilized by this slow twist? The only 40 cal bullet I had is 370 gr and too long to stabilize. I feel it has to be a lubed grooved bullet as opposed to a PP bullet. Any thoughts on the original loading. It has the correct front and rear tang sights, and just needs to be coaxed to shoot accurately.

    Sharps

    Mike,
The original bullet for your carbine was a shortened version of the ringtail bullet. The nose was slightly more pointed and there was just one grease groove. No ringtail.

I have not seen a mould for one, just original dug bullets.

90gr FFFg is a pretty stiff load, I would drop that back to 35-45gr FFFg.

    Take care and be safe
