powder charge for a Pedersoli Sharps Carbine

Looking to go to the experts on this. I have acquired a Pedersoli 1859 Sharps carbine and I am looking for information on what type of powder charge to use. I am using a Rapine ringtail on this.

    Thanks in advance.

The best load I have found with that bullet in my .54 cal. Shiloh Sharps carbine is 42 grains of 3F Goex. I would suggest that as a starting point.

    Hey Dutch,
My Pedersoli (with the ringtail bullet) likes 38 grains of 3f Goex best with c.o.w. filler in Charlie's tubes, have not tried swiss powder yet.

I highly recommend WANO FFFg in the Pedersoli Sharps because it produces slightly less fouling than the GOEX FFFg. I have yet to try Swiss in my Pedersoli Sharps but the less fouling, the better-not only for accuracy but also to keep the breech block working with less hassle!

50g FFFg Goex. If fouling in an issue, you need more lube. As far as fouling the action, try using liberal amounts of high temp, high pressure wheel bearing grease available from Wally World or other sources.

Thank you all for your input. Need to put a taller front sight on it and get the trigger pull on it down to 3 pounds

In addition to trying those powder charges, using soft musket lead worked better than hard "carbine" lead as the Pedersoli's have deeper rifling than the Shilohs. See if it works for you.

    I think Greg Ogdan means 50gr. of 2 f goex not 3F

Mike is correct, I mean't FFg. 3 F will recoil more sharply AND erode your pressure plate face more quickly.
