I have been shopping for powder and I am finding traditional black powder is not readily available in this area. I am looking to buy 777 in 2f which I can get at the local Gander Mountain. How does that compare to Pyrodex, or Goetz black powder?

Do you have a Bass Pro Shop near-by? The ones here in Georgia usually carry Goex black powder, you just have to ask for it because it is not displayed.
You can also get BP by mail order. As long as you keep it dry, It keeps so don't worry about "aging."

I am not close to a Cabellas or a Bass Pro Shop, so bought some 777 2f. It will have to do until I can order some BP.
Well it looks like I am going to have to use 777, at least until we have a local gun show and I can try and pick up some Goex. I have a question about a load for the 777 2F. I am shooting a 58 cal Lyman .577 minnie. I intend to start with a target load of 40 gr of 777 2F, does this sound like a good load to start with?
Couldn't say. For N-SSA shooting we're allowed to use only real black powder (guess we're purists that way). Don't recall that you ever said what kind of firearm you're shooting. Most of us are using 3F black powder--around 45 grains or so in rifle muskets and less in carbines. I don't expect that 40 grains of 2F 777 will blow up your gun, but still I'd advise (since I don't know what you're shooting) using the remote method of firing it at first, as described in a Dixie Gun Works catalog.

I am shooting a 58 cal Armi Sports CS Richmond. I would rather shoot BP but apparently the only store that sells it in this area is Bass Pro Shops and they are over 1.5 hours away. Next time there is a Gun Show locally I am going to try and pick up some Goex.

I am in Jupiter Fl, Palm Beach County, South Fl. I guess most BP shooters here are hunters. They most likely use substitutes and are shooting inline. I just want to target shoot and would get a charge out of making a CW type muzzleloader shoot well. But getting BP around here is like getting a winning Lotto ticket. I can get Pyrodex, 777 and some other substitute powders, but BP is some what rare.
