    Rich Cross 3 band Springfield

I have a nice, mostly original 3 band Springfield for sale. It hails from Rich Cross about 5 years ago. All original components but a Numrich Arms barrel.

PM me if interested and I'll take copious amounts of pictures.

$850 plus secure shipping. This includes the bullet mould it's sighted in for, Lyman 575494.

Sorry to admit this last part but I don't know the difference between an 1861 or 1863 musket. If there is interest, I'll talk to some of my SAC contacts and get better info.

The hammer and bolster are different.

Go here and look at the pictures on the top row. Picture # 3 is an 1861 Springfield and picture # 5 is an 1863 Springfield.

If it?s a Numerich barrel it?s probably an 1863 model. I don?t believe they ever made an 1861 barrel, at least I have never seen one in 60 years of civil war collecting and shooting. An 1863 has an S shaped hammer, narrower direct vent bolster and narrow convex shaped barrel bands. The 1861s have a C shaped hammer, wider bolster and wider flat barrel bands.

    Numrich barrel

Numerich barrels are 63's but the bolster has a clean out screw which makes them appear to be 61's. There is a story here including Numerich barrels being a good barrel but small in diameter. My Numerich is 574. These barrels were grandfathered in way back when but I think the policy changed. If you have a Numerich barrel on a musket and you have a SAC card for the musket, you are good. However, I do not think that SAC will approve any NEW muskets will a Numerich Barrel. Do a search of this website for the latest policy change for the Numrich barrel conversions.

They are in the January 2024 listing of Approved Arms with no mention of grandfathering.
