    Best bullet for Maynard carbine?

Greetings All. I?m a new owner of a Maynard carbine. It seems never to have been fired and I?m excited to shoot it. But first I could use some advice:

    • I have an Eras Gone mold for the Smith carbine and I thought I read somewhere that the Smith bullet could be fired in the Maynard. However it seems too large. I loaded one in a Maynard case that I acquired from S&S - it seated ok but was a bit tight. What do y?all think?
    • If I need to use a different bullet what would y?all recommend?
    • Any other tips or recommendations?

Thanks in advance for your help!!

FWIW I prefer the Moose 515-385 in both Smith and Maynard.

Many shoot the Lyman 515139 bullet or similar designs by Oziak, Moose, Rapine and others. I know of some who shoot the Lyman 515141 at 450 grains with good results. I shoot one similar to the 515141 but shorter and with one less grease groove made by Accurate Molds. Most of us end up with several molds and shoot what works best in our particular carbine and sell the rest.

Have you slugged your bore to determine the right size bullet you will need? Usually .001-.002 over bore will work very well. What size bullet does your mold drop (measure it after it cools... )... You can use that bullet - but may have to size it down just a smidge so it fits your brass, chamber and rifling properly.
