    W. Large barrel loads

    Hi,

I'm curious what folks are using or have used in their Large barrels. I know they are 8 groove so my question are what bullet type and powder charge are you running in yours that I should use as a starting point?

    TIA!

When I shot a Large barrel I used the Lyman Wadcutter and 35 grains of 3F.
It was in a 3 band Springfield.

    wm large barel

    several questions...
is your barrel all Wm Large? What Caliber? or is it a Harmon breech with a Bill Large Barrel- and what caliber

Some early Wm Large barrels were rifled for patched round balls so minies struggle

    Hi,

Thanks Mike. It?s a .575 with a .577 bore. The barrel is on a M1841 and appears to be all Large including breech and stated on SAC card. The barrel length is 33.25?

I?ve got an old Large 1863 Springfield barrel. It started out as a 40 inch 3 band barrel. As my father aged and got harder for him to load it became a 33 inch on a so called ?artillery? model. It shoots fine with a Hodgdon minie sized to .576 with 43 grains of 3f GOEX.

It appears to have flat cut rifling however I will put a camera down the barrel when I pick it up Tuesday. I don't see the twist noted on the SAC card and unsure if it.

Thanks, I will give that a try. Those two band Springfields are great light shooters.

    rifling

So if flat- its cut for a minie
the twist is sometimes stamped on the bottom of the barrel-
the standard 575213 lyman or ideal minie should work with 38 to 47 grains of goex or equlivent
