I just got ahold of a nice lookingGarrett Sharps carbine date coded 1980, however while taking it apart and going over everything I found that the threaded hole for the nipple didn't seem to have very deep threads, and upon inspection found the hole measured 7.6mm for an m8-1 nipple, making the hole nearly a full milimeter too large, the maximum size it should measure is 6.89mm. Has anyone else encountered this? The hole is factory made, the color case hardening colors are present in the hole.
I am planning on rethreading it for an m9-1 nipple, and doing a few other tweeks to clean it up. The sliding sealing element on the breech needs a good polishing and some metal removed to eliminate it from binding in the breach.
Also, does anyone have any suggestions on improving the sight picture? In the folded position, the close range he rear sight V is quite shallow and narrow, not lookingfor buckhorns or anything but is it acommon practice to enlarge the sight?
