    1841 Mississippi sight adjustment

I have an original Mississippi that has had the front sight replaced along with the rear sight and the gun shoots to the right about 3 inches. Any advice on what needs to be done to correct this? The front sight is not dovetailed in its a tall sight and the rear is a long range sight.
    Thanks Charlie

If this is the dovetailed fixed rear sight, tap it to the left.

If the front sight is dovetailed, move it in the OPPOSITE direction you wish to change the point of impact.

    Windage Problem

I understand this is a windage problem using an original M1841 rifle with a long range sight. First, we need to know at what range it is shooting 3 inches to the right. 50 yards? 100 yards? Then we need to know if your bullet and powder charge combination is grouping shots consistently. Often a different load will group in a different place. You definitely need to get a good grouping load before you start messing with the sights. You may not want to mess with original sights to preserve collector value so experimenting with different bullets and charges should be tried first.

My understanding is that both front and rear sights were replaced. Was it shooting dead on , before the sight replacement?

This gun shoots a very nice group at 50 yards I have tried different powder charges and am very pleased with the group its just putting the group 3 inches to the right. This gun when I got it had to be relined so I had the sights replaced.

Charlie, It is a simple ratio. 50 yards is 1800 inches. 3 divided by 1800 is .001666. Multiply this by your sight radius which is probably 27" and you get .045". Move the front sight .045" to the right and you should be right on.
