    Is this a Stake Buster?

I picked up a Challenger 577 600 mould at auction. It was NOS. I just casted some rounds with it. I used to have a challenger 579 trash can and LOVED that mold. It was lost several years ago in a move to my new home. Been looking for one of those molds ever since. I bought this one with limited photos. (The price was right.) It is an interesting bullet, but not what I am looking for. Is this what is considered a stake buster? I wanted it for deer, but this is too much! I have a Lee 578 at 478 grains that shoots fantastic out of the Zoli I have. I have pics to show comparisons of the bullets.
All I really wanted was an old Rapine or other trash can

    Is this a Stake Buster?

Well maybe not for deer...looking good for bear, moose, and Sasquatch. I recall there was one or two S.L. issues which showed pictures of rounds found after real stake events...not press-board. These would work upon telephone poles, 2x6 - 2x8 solid wood planks though...I think someone got creative for hunting rounds.

    None the less...very interesting.

    Take care.

    B-Davis,

They are known by various names: stake breaker, stake buster, stake cutter, etc. Over 50 years ago I had a teammate ream out an old Lyman new style minie mold to have a flat nose like the one you show. I think I took it to a couple of shoots when we still shot at wood stakes. After a couple of shoots and a lot of lead the mold went in a drawer never to be used again. All I accomplished was to ruin a good Lyman mold.

Are you looking for a trash can mold like Lee used to make, with the flat nose and multiple small grease grooves? If so, I have a Rapine trash can mold, no. 577 470, that I would sell for $60 mailed to the lower 48. If you are interested, let me know.

Eric Fritz shoots something like that, it is very accurate, and if I remember correctly it does tip then it hits a target. It always leaves small ovals in a paper target.
