Ideas fo 100 yard breakable targets?

We used to have access to these neat 8" disks/ovals that were left over when they cut out the hole in commerical counter tops for sinks or garbage bags from a factory.

That source has dried up.

I tried buying some bulk plastic plates from Amazon:

But these were just a bit too flimsy and not rigid enough so they did not shatter on impact.

Would be nice to find some bulk plastic plates that would shatter on impact. Remember those plates you used to get with your dog food?

Would be nice to find a local bottler for 2 liter bottles but storage would become a problem.

I experimented with plaster of paris poured into styrofoam plates. Worked OK but labor intensive.

Right now 6" tiles are our go-to.

Any ideas?

We keep thinking in terms of a square target. Maybe someone can approach the clay pigeon company to make a 6 inch or 8 inch clay target for us aka Big Bird. We need to know the number of big bird's per year that we would need? We need to know if the Clay pigeon company can go that big. The Clay pigeon company can market to other shooting clubs not just us. Any volunteers step forward?

Interesting...I remember back in the 70's (might have been an NWT thing) lunch bags were filled with colored water...zip lock freezer bags are a bit larger...fill with water and dye. I am unsure how they use to hang them.

Ron, a pretty good thought...might have to add something into the mix to curb additional fire ant intrusion at the range(s).

Something like a resin, fiberglass resin hardens up well.

Steve, I do not know if you have bottle return where you are at? In Michigan we have 10 cent returns, so the majority of two liters get crushed at wallyworld etc. I have been to local recycling centers in the past and I have seen un-crushed milk jugs bound in holding nets...they will probably sell them and take them back after being destroyed. You may be able to find two liters the same way if you don't have deposits there.

We've shot plaster at ACWSA events, unsure how they hold up in a sudden downpour.

Drywall compound, mortar.

A one-time cost for having steel plates made...definitely reusable, just hang and paint.

Also, a restaurant supply shop may have the breakable plates you're searching for.

Steve, I used to go to a restaurant supply store near the Atlanta Airport for ideas. You can buy 24 oz or 32 oz styrofoam cups with lids that work well. Takes two good sized rubber bands to hold them, and you loop the wire through the junction of the two rubber bands. They explode great on a direct hit, or if you have a graze it breaks the structure of the target, and the rubber bands crush it. Don?t know how much they would cost now, but different.

I contacted White Flier to see if they would be interested in making clay pots. Not enough volume to be interesting for them.

I?ve seen 6-inch tiles, 2-liter jugs, and 2x2 ft volley or rapid fire targets used. Or just put up 10 clay pigeons for an 8-man team.
