We're there any 1851 Cadet muskets produced with brass hardware on them? More specifically, would an 1851 with brass hardware pass SAC inspection? Also. Can anyone provide the spec sheets for both the smoothbore and rifled/ sighted versions?

The 1851 cadet was only produced at Springfield and to my knowledge no firearms were made at Springfield with brass fittings. In an extreme example a smooth bore Mississippi could possibly be confused with an 1851 cadet for some one not familiar with period firearms.

A couple of observations and questions: The musket pictured looks to have an original and lightly pitted barrel (is it .69 or .58 caliber?) but the wood looks pretty clean (sanded?) which may suggest a parts gun. The barrel appears to have a rear sight and the head of the ramrod is cupped for a Minie. Is there any rifling in the bore? As far as I know, only the Palmetto Armory in Columbia, SC made M1842 muskets (.69 caliber) with brass furniture but not cadet muskets. What are the markings on the lock plate (not shown)? Worth noting that locks of this period were interchangeable and could be swapped out.

I have little doubt that it's probably a parts gun. I just want to come up with a plan to make this a skirmish gun. The barrel is .57 caliber smoothbore and in good shape. The rear sight is coming off and the slot is getting filled. There are no band springs and bands are retained with "through-pins", which will be replaced with band springs. The lock plate is unmarked. Stock is in great shape. I plan on leaving it a smoothbore for now, but may consider a rifled / sighted option later.

More so out of curiosity, I want to know where the brass 1851 furnature came from and we're there 1851's that were produced / issued this way. I was hoping it might pass SAC inspection with the furniture as is, but I will plate or cerakote it, if necessary. Other than adding the band springs, engraving the lock plate and removing/refilling the rear sight slot, what else might I need to do to satisfy SAC?
