Has anyone tried using a 12-gauge shotgun slug (cast in soft lead) as a bullet for a .69 caliber rifle, like a Plymouth or a Freemont? Any thoughts?

I've used one in a French rifled musket, worked sorta okay. Kick was considerable, though.

Well, my bore diameter in my Fremont is 0.694, so I figured I could size them down to 0.693 if they were cast from soft lead.
The only other .69 caliber bullets I have been able to find are two types of Minie's, either the huge 700-gr. or the smaller Rapine, but these only go up to 0.690, which I thought would be too small for an 0.694 bore.
I shot some Lyman mold 12 gauge slugs from an Austrian Augustin/Garibaldi Rifle, .718 caliber, rifled with 12 (or so) grooves. The slug was a bit undersized but it worked o.k. as a bullet in that the group was maybe 8" at 50 yards with no key holes, moderate kick in comparison with the 700 grain
monster Minies. I think by using a swedgeing die to bump up the caliber a bit and experimenting with charges it could do the trick. The slug would need some cavity lube, of course, as it has no rings.
Sized down to .69-ish, it should be great.....Let us know!
