    Original Smoothbores with Rear Sights

What original models exist that have rear sight besides H&P Conversions?

Perhaps this is an interesting one (from a different web posting): Belgian copy of the French M1859 ?Carabine de Vincennes? 69 Caliber Smoothbore. Lock-plate is marked ?G. SCHOPEN / A. LIEGE?. The left side of the chamber is marked with a faded proof above an oval marked ?E / LG / *?. G. Schopen was a Liege based gun manufacturer that operated between ca. 1857-1864. The manufacturer was known to have made arms that were used during the American Civil War (most of their muskets are based on French designs).

That type of gun was a rifle and I've seen no evidence that any were made as smoothbores. The Prussian "Potsdam" was the only smoothbore with a rear sight imported in quantity. Others were the M1842 Austrian musket, the M1842 English musket, and French M1822, M1840 and M1842 muskets. Not all of these had rear sights, but if they did it was with a block sight on the tang. The Belgians made copies of the French Models 1842 and 1853, some with the block tang sight, others without. No smoothbores with adjustable rear sights.

    Original smoothbore with rear sight

While we?re on the subject does anyone following this thread have any information on the Wurttemberg smoothbore musket? I have one and would like to get a sac card for it but can only find very limited information about it. The lock action is very nice it has a block rear sight with a flip up leaf dovetailed into the tang. Any info would be appreciated.
