Picture of 30" Macon Conversion nose cap area?

    Hi all,

I'm in the process of starting a 30" conversion on a Armisport M1842.

Could someone send me some close-up pictures of the nosecap area with the cap on and off? Sides, top, and bottom, please. Trying to figure out how to carve the stock in the transition area where the middle band used to be, and how to relieve the wood for the "tear drop" on the back belly of the nosecap.

    Thanks,
    Steve Sheldon

Steve, the stock should transition smoothly all the way from the rear band up to the front band. There should not be a definite step to the front band. The stock behind the front band should look just like it does on the long 3 band stock.

To the front of the front band?

Because the way the front band will sit when the stock is cut to the new dimension, the front barrel band will cover up the current step where the middle band used to be.

So I assume that old step for the middle band will be obliterated as the stock behind the middle band is shaped to match the front of the old stock.

Edit: I guess the step has to be obliterated - as you say the profile of the stock behind the middle band must be shaped to match the profile in front or the front band won't slide over the old step.
