Where can I buy a breech plug wrench that will fit a Mississippi rifle? The one I mooched is too sloppy and I'm afraid of damaging the tang. I search BACO and TOW but nothing came up. Thank you.

Someone used to make a universal wrench and sell them at the fort. They were 1/4'' or 3/8'' flat stock about 3'' wide by 24'' long. They have a ''V'' on either end one end in line with the wrench, the other at 90 degrees to it. The ''V'' was deep and long and fit about any breech plug perfectly. Might be something worth looking into and maybe even have a machine shop make some up if they're no longer available.
I'll try and remember to post a pic and measurements tomorrow so you can have one made.

I bought mine from this thread:

Pic of the wrench I bought at the fort 25 years ago. I don't remember who made or sold them, it was $15.00 (still marked on the wrench). It works for any rifle or musket I've needed to remove the breech plug on over the years with no marring or marking.
It's 1/4'' thick, 20'' long, 2'' wide. The ''V'' measures .600'' and tapers to .270'' 1.450'' in length. Any local machine shop should be able to reproduce this at a reasonable cost from the photo and measurements I've provided.
Try Northeast Traders I think his name is John DeWall.

Try Dixie Gun Works, I bought one just like the one in your picture. I know that it will not fit my .69 cal 1842, I need to open up the hole a little. I think it was about $27. Good luck. Bill
Old Hickory, is there any taper on the sides inside the "V" or are they straight thru? Thanks for all the other measurements and the photo.
Kurt
I got mine from Dan Whitacre.
