    Brush size for 56-50 Spencer

Does anyone know what is the best brush size for a Spencer in 56-50?
    Thanks, Jeffrey C.

    Hello, Grepse:

While the bore diameters are slightly different for the larger M1860, 56-56's than the later M1865, 56-50's, a standard 58 bore musket brush works well for me in the .564" 56-56 bore and a 54 musket brush is ok in the 56-50 bore. A 20 gauge shotgun brush of .620" OD will be too tight.
I use a std .588", 58 musket brush in Spencer chambers.

The brass bore brushes from Mary Ann at Rebel Trading Post, a Ft. S sutler, have worked for me. Avoid any that are NOT brass/bronze bristles.
Some out there have soft stainless bristles that are harsh on bores. Smiles.

Thanks, Dave, for the 24 bore suggestion:

The 58 brushand 24 gauge brush may be very close to the same diameter.

I cannot find a source for 24 gauge brass bore brushes.
    Any suggestions, please? Tx. Smiles.
