    Pietta Smith Carbine Question

    Just bought a used Pietta Smith and I have a question.The brass lever opens the action fine but the lever turns left and right a little like its loose.What do i have going on here or is that normal? Thanks!
    PS also The action is stamped 630 and below that 3630 on the underside action and hindge.Any idea when this was possibly made?

    My original is a little loose left and right on the action lever. Nothing I would be concerned about.

    A little twisting of the brass break-open trigger is normal.

    Check the hammer side of the receiver. You may find a square with 2 letters in it. Mine is CN. This is the date code. So mine was made in 2015.

    I have an older one with no date code.

    Mine is marked BI so thats 1997 What year did they have problems with barrels being backwards that ive read about?

    Not sure of the year, but Pietta corrected the barrel issue somewhere under the 2000 serial number mark. If yours is #3630 it should be fine.

    One way to be sure is to take a ball and drive it from breech to muzzle, if it falls out in the last few inches yours is backwards.

    The magic number is 1342

    In my travels and connections to firearms dealer, the magic number for the end to bad barrels in the Smith Carbine is 1342. Anything higher than 1342 may or should be a good barrel.
