1st model Maynard rear sight for 26in barrel question

I purchased an original a couple of weeks ago. It came with an original, but relined, 26in barrel. There is a lot of play/slop between the barrel and receiver and the accuracy is hit and miss. I would like to put a rear sight on the barrel to improve as the rear tag sight is not attached to the barrel. I've shimmed it, but still has play.

Looking for information or someone that has an original 26 in to confirm the location on the barrel. The SAC sheet says 4in, but that would put it in the round part of the barrel. Approximately 3in is what I have on the 20 in. The pictures that I have seen on line of the "Sporter" model suggest the same location as a 20in.

The 2nd model has a different sight and the location for that barrel is completely different.

Again, looking for clarification for a 1st model or am I just wasting time on the wrong fix.

Fix the looseness of the barrel to frame fit and your problem will be solved. Very few really know how to do this. I do. I've seen lots of amateurish attempts to tighten Maynard barrel fit. None worked well or for very long.

Send it to John, it'll be right when you get it back and it needs to be addressed anyway. Bonus, your sight will work again too.
