    1864 Springfield aka 1863 Type 2

Recently acquired a 1864 Bridesburg project, that I am considering making into a "1864 Springfield aka 1863 Type 2" as specified on the SAC build sheet. I am a little confused since it came with a screw type band. (It also has a IN proof on the cut down stock).

Does it just have the wrong band on it?

What is the correct band type for an 1864 Bridesburg?

    Thank you

Type I - Screw Type band only
Type II- Solid bands (not flat like the 1861's) and band springs

Also the 1863 Bridesburg gets a special distinction being one of the few contractors that made both the 1861 and 1863 (Type I) Springfields. So an 1863 Springfield with the 1863 Barrel, and 1863 (Clamp/Screw Bands) and a Bridesburg lock are correct.

I have an "IN" Bridesburg as well. It is also an 1864 and has screw bands.

IN marked musket could be a Fenian musket?

There is a chance that the IN "proof" mark on the stock indicates a possible Fenian connection. I wouldn't do anything until you explore that possibility. Read the attached article and do some further research.

    An interesting read.

(After posting this, I now see that John Holland posted info on the Fenian connection)
