This is a silly question, but I don't have one to look at right now. Question: Is a Burnside Carbine front sight dovetailed or soldered in place?
Thanks!

Dovetailed. At least on the 4th models.
Maybe both. I can't swear to it, but mine was REALLY stuck when I changed it out. It's been a few years ago now and I don't remember if there was solder under there or not. They are definitely dovetailed.
Thanks for the responses!
A friend wanted me to adjust his front sight, which is why i asked the question. Just so I had an idea of what i would be dealing with. The Burnside was dovetailed and soldered in place.
Thanks again!

Yup, when I replaced the original front Burnside sight with a tall represent for skirmishing, just a little head from a propane torch allowed the front side to slide right off (pliers were used so as not to burn fingers), leaving just a little soft solder behind. The new tall sight was pushed into place (with just a wee bit of filing ... the fit must be close), and re-heating made the solder that was under the sight bond.
