    1855 QUESTIONS

I have a brass mounted 1855 with a multi groove Harmon Large barrel, and I want to work up a load with the Rapine Waddcutter. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    REm
I don't have The Rapine Mold, I use the Lyman wadcutter #575494, sized to .575. I shoot 35 grns of 3f, in my Fayetteville, and my Richmond Carbine. Buth guns have the Harmon/Large bbl with Multi grooves. The wadcutter will go thru the same holes, if I can holf it there. It is a little bit iffy at 100 yrds, but I except it.

    Re: 1855 QUESTIONS

Back in 1973 or 74 I was shooting an original '61 Springfield with a Weisz barrel. I went to the 315 grain Lyman wadcutter and 32 grains of FFFg Dupont. This load combination was extremely accurate-THEN I LEARNED MY LESSON!

Went to a Tidewater skirmish and during the Musket Team Matches it was a very windy morning. Didn't hit a darn thing.

So, the lesson learned was that the little Lyman 315 grainer dosen't shoot worth a flip in windy conditions, but on calm days it is a very accurate bullet!
