    Big Gun

Since this thread has achieved dormancy I thought I'd put something on it. This is a photo from '67 -- a Tiger tank still in its original Wehrmacht colors parked at Aberdeen Proving Ground. This was still prior to the army painting everything pink and you could climb all over the suckers. It and the King Tiger behind it still have marks where Sherman shots bounced off. As to appropriateness for this forum, notice the reference to "Sherman" above. And also the Tiger guns were based on the 3" Ordnance Rifle.

More recent was "Fury" with Brad Pitt. In it they used the one Tiger still operational in Europe.

    Question King Tiger

    Eggman,
Is the number on the King Tiger in your photo 332 ? I ask because there is a write up with photos on line about 332. Tank photographs ---America's King Tiger II. Just saying....

Yeah Bob I'm 98.7% sure it's "332." If you look real close you can still make out the number on the turret. I also remember the steel plate that had been welded to the left side of the turret where the Army had cut it open. Hadn't realized the Army had moved it from APG. Should have taken more pictures but Kodak film was expensive in those days --- like 1.25 for a roll of film.

    Exclamation 332

    Eggman,
Thanks for the info. I stared at the photo until my eyes teared and was not sure. Old age I guess. There was a real nice article showing the restoration of 332 online. Thanks again!

I climbed all over that tank when when we were on a Boy Scoot trip there 40 years ago.
