I purchased a Garrett Sharps from another member and it arrived yesterday. I was able to get to the range and put a few rounds through it.
The major surprise was how much powder blowback I was getting. It felt like someone slapping me across the forehead. Was using 45 grains of 3f, I may try 2f next time to see if that makes a difference. Still, the action remained just as smooth on the sixth shot as it was on the first.
As you will see, the breech block has some sort of gasket between the seal plate and the block. I?m guessing this didn?t factory. Does anyone recognize this modification? Is this something that should be replaced with time? I have not tried to remove the plate yet.
