    Cherry H&P...

Now THAT is a VERY NICE looking piece!

She appears to be straight out of the arsenal, but has clearly been very well cared for.

    What a beauty.

It appears to me that this musket has been excessively cleaned and refinished. There are no cartouches present and areas of the original markings are missing. This appears to be over priced by about $800-1000 .just my opinion of course.

Mine looks just like that, and it is also dated 1863. In looking at several H&Ps, I suspect that the stocks were refinished when they did the conversions. There should be an assembly number on the bottom of the barrel, in the stock channel and possibly on the back of the lock plate. If there are cartouches on the opposite lock flat, they are usually pretty weak.

Using a rear sight on a smoothbore seems a bit anarchistic.

    H&P smoothbore

Stocks were not refinished at time of conversion. I will attempt to post a pic of a proper looking H&P cartouch.

"You Don't Know" is correct, he doesn't know. This gun was purchased as is from an NSSA Small Arms Inspector and has been inspected by the SAC and a card issued that this is correctly marked.

Never said it wasn't correct. I said It's been cleaned and probably has refinished wood and over priced
